my 100 hour challenge

Sick at home today pondering my future. My house in Auckland is on the market, so is my land in the Waikato. I am where I was at the same time last year, looking for a teaching job. Hmmn, not exactly what I envisioned. Oh well, what to do but move on?

100 hour challenge

It is really hard to get that 1hour a day!! There always seems to be something else to do that takes precedence. By the time I have done for the day it’s late at night.  I have been practicing my piano but not regularly.  What to do?

End of term is looming and still lots to do. TIRED!

Kia ora (to all, really me!)

Hmmn, what to say. It’s hard to think where to start. So much has happened. Moved house, husband got a new job, what else? Actually when you put it like that what have I been doing? Doesn’t sound much.

Well, I have decided that it is a generational thing where ‘the younger generation’ need to be validated, in print, by someone, anyone responding to their blurb.  I wonder if this comes from school because we talk a lot about purposeful writing. Needing an audience to validate the writing.  I guess the long term aim is to (just like reading) to write for enjoyment, hence diary writing. Or is it? Can we get a c hild to write just because they enjoy writing. I know what my kids would say to my babble. They would be singularly unimpressed by the fact that there is no other comments.

I remember taking a paper where we were asked to write with the screen dark on our computers for 5minutes. Just write whatever was in our heads. That was one of the most enjoyable activities I have had with writing.

Off to unpack my house. Bring back letter writing.

My+First+Blog+Post

Well day something or other (Saturday in real world talk) for blogging. Had a game of guitar hero the other day, naaah still not feeling it. Why the big deal with computer games – I would still much rather sit and read a book for hours, literally hours and hours. The dream if I could stay in bed and read all day without any other responsibility except eating and other essential stuff I would be very happy.  Yet, my kids have been on a Star Wars feel the force game for several hours and stil look like they could go for hours more.  I’m just old, I know,  gonna give it another go.

Blogging is weird. Really!

I went to a NUMPA workshop today. VERY INTERESTING – how to introduce fractions. Now who would be interested in something like that? Me! Cos if you think about all the learning that has to go before this, well it’s all just really amazing.

Thanks for the email Ewan – you’re an interesting chap. From music teacher to ICT guru very impressive.

Well day, whatever it is blogging and talking to myself and you know what it’s still weird. Am in the middle of marking and trying to find the time to fulfil my mummy duties, makes me tired just thinking about it. Whoever said that having kids was a joy forgot to mention the work that goes into making sure that your kids are fulfilling their potential – whatever that may be. Now that rugby and netball have finished you would think I have more time – nah. Not happening, the thing is as soon as time is made available I fill it with other activities to do with my kids of course. Now it’s basketball 6 days a week, plus ballet for missy. AND still pondering the generational thing that requires anything that is said must be responded to.

You know what I still have not filling my 100hrs. I’ve promised myself next week – I better cos my piano teacher’s gonna kick me to the kerb if I don’t start practicing. Hmmn better get to that marking.

Day 2 blogging

Well I’ve decided to use this forum as my own personal diary. I used to keep a diary and the only one who read it was me.  The thing is I also realise I’m going to be ‘talking’ to myself. You know what (yeah I know I’m answering myself) don’t care. I told my kids that I had started blogging. They went in and had a look (quietly I’m impressed cos they’re 7, 9 and 12) and they said ‘Shame you have no one answering’ to which I said ‘Don’t care’ (very adult). The thing is, I was thinking, is this a generational thing, that whenever they write or say something they (generation y – the generation that wants everything now) require a response. Is this some form of validation they require? I will ponder this further.

As part of my teaching practise I know that audience is important but I like to write for the sake of writing because I like to have my thoughts somewhere I can ‘see’ them. Is that weird? How do I get a kid to write just because writing is an enjoyable practise? Hmmn
